Drag Racing returns in earnest this weekend in New England
by Neil Van Zile
Snow in April (this is New England, after all), disrupted the drag racing schedule last weekend, and this coming Sunday doesn’t look good, with nearly a 90% chance of rain. But Saturday looks like a winner, with temps in the high 60s-low 70s and clear skies throughout the region.
New Oxford Dragway holds its rescheduled Opening Day on Saturday, with the gates opening at 10 am and racing continues to 8 pm.
As a reminder, Photographer James Russo will be on hand to auction a special edition 10×30 metal photo print. All of the proceeds from this auction go to purse money for the Jr. Dragster Bash at the track later on this year.
New England Dragway is hosting the Ed Day Charity Challenge on Saturday, as well as the first race of the year for the Central Mass Drag Racers on Saturday. Saturday also features the first appearance of Supercars at Epping.
Lebanon Valley Dragway hosts the Northeast Old Drag Racers And Musclecar Association (NODRAMA) series on Saturday, along with a test and tune session.
Sunday is planned to feature the first VP Fuels point race of the season at New England Dragway and the OGS Street Wars and Car Show at Lebanon Valley. Given the high chance of rain on Sunday, it is doubtful that either of these events will happen.
