H-Day, CMDR, All-Stars
Hondas took over NED for the weekend
by Neil Van Zile
New England Dragway played host to Hondas this past weekend. The event is called H-Day, but it’s really H Weekend, with a full schedule of events, a car show, vendors, and Honda-only drag racing both days.
Lebanon Valley Dragway On top of their regular bracket points series, LVD was the site of the latest race on the schedule for Central Mass Drag Racers (CMDR) and a double-header event for the All-Star Racing Association (ASRA). Not surprisingly, more than a few racers from New England Dragway towed over the border and helped swell the car counts both days, with more than 300 cars in competition on Sunday.
New Oxford Dragway raced all of their weekly bracket series, plus another round of the Jr. Dragsters.
Winterport Dragway took advantage of the beautiful weather to run their weekend bracket points program on Sunday.
Volume 1 – Issue 21
For the week of August 9 – 15, 2021
Jay Bruneau had his first-ever round win in his great-looking Chevy S10 pickup during Sunday’s ASRA race, and then he went on to win five more rounds against some very experienced drivers. Congratulations to Jay on his first round win and his first time in the Winner’s Circle, all on the same day!

I had the opportunity to reconnect with two long-time racers at Lebanon Valley Dragway on Sunday. I took a lot of photos of Grant Nichols and Jon Petrecky back in the 1990s, both on the track and in the Winner’s Circle.
Sunday I was lucky enough to be there when both Grant and Jon stood with a member of the next generation of racers from their respective families. Shawn Nichols won in Pro in the same car that Grant was driving more than 20 years ago.
Jim Petrecky took the win in Super and added to his own growing pile of kill stickers on his dragster. Congratulations to both Shawn and Jim, and to Grant and Jon for making the sport of drag racing the cornerstone of raising their kids.

I am convinced that Eric Cabral’s favorite song is “Paint It Black” by the Rolling Stones – “I see a line of cars, and they’re all painted black”
He showed up with his latest black car, a 1969 Nova that he is running in G/SA as the newest member of the All-Star Racing Association. He made it through three rounds in Sunday’s race with consistent reaction times and ETs, losing to Bob Moran in the fourth round when he broke out. Eric plans to race the Nova at the upcoming NHRA Divisional and also will shoe for Ed Iannotti in the black Willys Top Sportsman car.
