Drag Racing Results for September 1 - 5, 2021

Volume 1 – Issue 24
For the week of August 30 – September 5, 2021

by Neil Van Zile

The weather doesn’t get any better than it did on Saturday, with sunny skies, temperatures in the 70s, low humidity, and light winds. Sunday looked foreboding, but the weather held off long enough at Lebanon Valley Dragway for that track to finish all of their eliminators. New England Dragway wasn’t so lucky. They only made it to the end of qualifying before the rains ended racing very early in the first round of eliminations.

____________________

New England Dragway had a double-header points weekend on the calendar, along with two rounds of the Iannotti Brothers Select Cars Top Sportsman series. Unfortunately, only one day of racing was in the cards.

In addition to the regular points eliminators on Saturday, the Genualdo family had a chance to finish the final round of the Jr. Dragster class left over from the recently fogged-out Divisional race. Siblings Kyle and Kaylee Genualdo faced off for the Wally. Kyle had a holeshot start over his sister and then ran closer to the dial to seal the win. They both had time in the Winner’s Circle however when Kaylee won the Jr. Street class.

Jeff Scafidi didn’t even have a working engine in his Camaro on Thursday. Even so, he showed up on Saturday ready to race and used the break-in runs on his new motor to put the car in the Winner’s Circle.

Dave Tubman’s last trip down the Epping quarter-mile ended with a very large hole in the oil pan and a nasty mess at the top end. Tubman showed up with a new engine under the hood of his El Camino, and a new air scoop made from the offending oil pan on top of the hood. He also redeemed himself by making it to the Winner’s Circle on Saturday.

Lebanon Valley Dragway – Wednesday night was a washout at LVD, but they were able to keep the rains away all day on Sunday and were able to complete all eliminators at the Musclemania event. Saturday featured a round of the Orient Express Bikes In The Valley series, NODRAMA, and the Supercars Shootout.

New Oxford Dragway finished all of their class eliminators on Friday night.

____________________

Winterport Dragway was far enough north of the rainy weather on Sunday to enjoy a full day of racing. In fact, they were able to run the final rounds of all the classes that had been rained out on the previous Sunday.
