Two Opening Day Drag Racing Events on Saturday, April 17

by Neil Van Zile

New England Dragway started the racing season last week with a street night on Friday and a couple of test and tune events. There were no racing “results” to report, other than an unfortunate incident that was “reported” by Double00ShitShow on Facebook.

This coming weekend features two Opening Day events, and one of them even has an eliminator race as part of the day’s events. While the weather looks bad for Friday (Snow?!?!? Really?), by early Saturday racing should be possible on at least one of the three dragstrips that are planning to open this weekend.

New Oxford Dragway opens its gates for the first time this year at 10 am for an all-day test and tune event. New Oxford usually runs on Friday nights, so this is a good opportunity to check out the 1/8th mile action during the daytime.

Photographer James Russo will be on hand to auction a special edition 10×30 metal photo print. All of the proceeds from this auction go to purse money for the Jr. Dragster Bash at the track later on this year.

Lebanon Valley Dragway also opens this weekend with test and tune events on both Saturday and Sunday. They are also hosting the first actual RACING event of the season with the first race for Northeast Old Drag Racers And Musclecar Association (NODRAMA). This will be the first of 16 planned races for the NODRAMA series at LVD in 2021. NODRAMA regularly gets more than 50 cars to compete in their eliminators. Watch for more coverage of NODRAMA this season here on The Northeast Drag News.

New England Dragway is also hosting their Friday Street Night, along with test and tune time trials on Saturday and Sunday. Actual drag racing is limited to motorcycle action on Saturday, with planned eliminators in both Fast By Gast and Street Fighter motorcycle classes. On Sunday, the Street Fighter motorcycles race again and the UGSB Index bikes and Outlaw 10.5 cars join in on the fun.
